The Department of Native American Studies at the University ofCalifornia, Davis (UCD) invites applications for an open-rank position inthe area of indigenous languages of the Americas, with an emphasison North America (U.S., Mexico, Canada) to begin July 1, 2013. Thisposition would be filled by an interdisciplinary scholar with an activeresearch agenda whose field(s) fall(s) within humanities and/or socialsciences. The holder of this faculty position in indigenous languagesshould have a Ph.D. in linguistics or in Native American studies with anemphasis on language, or in a related field, an active interest inindigenous languages of the Americas, and in language acquisition andrevitalization. The holder of this position must be able to work withstudents who are interested in learning more about indigenouslanguages (in some cases, their heritage languages), and, in particular,with our graduate students who are required to study an indigenousAmerican language. The holder of this position will be considered forappointment as the Director of the Native American Language Center,and should show a (beginning or sustained) track record of grantsupport for language research. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in handby the first day of classes.
We seek individuals with a commitment to the enhancement of ourNative American Studies undergraduate and graduate programs. Ourdepartment is inter/multidisciplinary and hemispheric in perspective. Weoffer an undergraduate major and minor and graduate program (M.A.,Ph.D., and D.E. Designated Emphasis) in Native American Studies.Candidates should include a letter of application, a curriculum vitae,two representative writing samples or publications, student evaluationsfrom two classes, and the names and addresses of three referees,preferably in digital format (with preference for pdf).
